A monthly roundup of some of my favorite things!
Patterns & Pinterest posts that spark inspiration
A while back I made a bunch of t-shirt yarn. I was excited to use it and to create a second life for those shirts I no longer wore. However, it wasn't until the yarn was already made that I thought..."What do I even make with this stuff." Of course I had seen the chunky bags and baskets but none of those things interested me. So unfortunately that second life I had hoped to give the shirts hadn't quite come. Imagine my face palm moment when I found this post turning tshirt yarn into a rug. I’m sure the list of possible projects is longer, but this one, which relies on braiding the yarn and then stitching the pieces together, is right in my wheelhouse.
Simple but effective crafting tools and tricks to work smarter not harder.
When working with leftover yarn or skeins that no longer have their original shape it's easy to default to winding it into a ball and moving on. I've talked up my trusty electric yarn winder in the past but really its a luxury. Hand winding while tedious can give you well made yarn cakes...if you know how. I find that this method is most effective both in cost and ease. The cardboard provides a sturdy but moldable base and ensures that your center pull strand is not lost. Like everything else it will require some practice to get your results just right but once you do, you can say goodbye to those pesky yarn balls that flop all over the place.
My own personal "Best of" for projects of the past, present, and future.
By now it's no secret that I like colorwork crochet. When I'm not making my own patterns I like practicing my technique with Pinterest patterns. This one I found is so cute and only 54 x 35. Once finished, you can use it in a variety of ways. Seam several together to make a blanket, turn one into wall art, or even use it as a base for garments . Also this may or may not hint at an upcoming release. 🤫🫣
